Online Science Blogs

For you science geeks out there, this is one of the better blogs I find -- http://scienceblogs.com/ --they do a great job of covering current topics from a science perspective. It’s really a blog collection featuring a number of current era science writers. The Clinton vs Trump saga is covered to the backdrop of total nuclear annihilation. While the election south of the border can provide us Canadians with some entertainment at times, this brings the reality of it home -- along with its potential dire consequences.

Another related site I find intriguing is http://www.overcomingbias.com/ -- this one challenges established beliefs and opinions from a scientific perspective.  The primary author refers to something he calls ‘viewquakes’…information that shakes up our view of the world. As I recall reading somewhere once..”you can have your own opinions but you can’t have your own facts”. This blog does a good job at times by challenging perceptions and opinions with natural science and the attendant proofs.

One of my favourites out there is James Randi. He’s a magician that fights the ongoing attack on reason and critical thinking head on. He’s getting on in years but still keeps up the challenge against pseudo-science. Here's a TED Talk to give you an idea of what he’s about http://www.ted.com/talks/james_randi?language=en
